Entries for funds received by the Receiver are listed chronologically and include payer name and residence; receipt date, amount, and cause (i.e., initial tract purchase payment; subsequent installment and interest payments; preemption claim). Land payment entries include tract legal description or Shawneetown lot number; acreage; price per acre; and total purchase price. Also included are quarterly receipt summaries for specie, military warrants, U. S. treasury notes, and forfeited land stock totals.

The Shawneetown Land District Office was created by an act of Congress on February 21, 1812. Part of the new district's land had formerly been attached to the Kaskaskia Land District; and a small portion of the Vincennes (Indiana) District was added to Shawneetown after Illinois' boundaries were established.
